Chickahominy Lodge was chartered on February 16, 1905. Our charter was issued by Thomas N. Davis, Grand Master of Masons in Virginia in the County of New Kent. The original officers were Parke Jones, Worshipful Master, W. W. Rich, Senior Warden, R.M. Turner, Junior Warden and Treasurer, R.A. Folkes, Secretary, Rob Fox, Senior Deacon and Tiler ProTem, and R.L. Jenkins Junior Deacon.
The Lodge originally met in Lanexa for the first five years. Meetings were held on Thursday night on or before the Full Moon which allowed extra light for traveling at night. Those travelling from Charles City came by boat while the Toano Brethren used the extra light to travel by hand car down the C & O Railroad tracks. The remaining Brethren travelled by wagon down the country roads. In 1939 the Stated Meeting date was changed to the second Tuesday of the month as it is today.
In 1910 the Lodge moved to rented space over Wor. W. C. Martin’s store in Toano. The Lodge dedication was held on July 21, 1910. That building was purchased for $2700 in 1945 and houses the current Lodge.
